The Singapore Cardiac Society was established in 1958 by a group of specialists at Outram Road General Hospital who shared a keen interest in cardiology. Pioneering physicians such as Professors Dhanaraj, E. S. Monterio, Ernest Steven, Sir Gordon Arthur Ransome, Wong Hee Ong, Yong Nen Kiong, and Charles Toh initiated regular clinical sessions to manage patients with cardiac conditions.

As the Society grew, its membership expanded with the inclusion of Drs M. B. Ghosh, Loh Tee Fun, and Teo Hoon Chow, who contributed expertise in paediatric cardiology. In 1960, Drs Yong Nen Kiong and Tan Ngoh Chuan further advanced the Society’s scope by introducing cardiothoracic surgery into its activities.

Since then, the Singapore Cardiac Society has made remarkable progress in advancing the fields of cardiology and cardiac surgery in Singapore. With the continued support of cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, anaesthetists, and researchers from both public institutions and private practice, the Society remains committed to fulfilling its founders’ vision of delivering excellence in cardiac care for all Singaporeans.
